Gary R. Tischer

Gary R. Tischer, 72, of La Crosse, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
He was born in La Crosse on July 1, 1943, to Herman and Christine (Nagel) Tischer. He attended La Crosse area schools including Aquinas High School and graduated from Grafton High School in 1961 after his father took a job on the east side of the state. On October 19, 1979, Gary married Elizabeth (Larson) Stahl at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
Gary worked in sales his entire life. He first worked at WKBT for ten years and then at Inland Material Handling for another 18 years before retiring. He also served with the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970. In his free time, Gary enjoyed fishing, especially for Muskie, and earlier in his life, he also enjoyed playing golf and deer and duck hunting. He was also a huge Packers and Brewers fan.
Gary is survived by his wife, Liz; two step-sons, Gerald (Michelle) Stahl, Jr. of Onalaska and Eric (Wendy) Stahl of Tyler, Texas; one step-granddaughter, Brandi (Billy) Warren of Tyler, Texas; two step great-grandchildren, Braylyn and Byntley; and many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 1st, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. A prayer service will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by a time for sharing remembrances of Gary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Children’s Miracle Network c/o of the Gundersen Medical Foundation or to the charitable organization of the donor’s choice.
