Richard T. “Dick” Roth, 78, of La Crosse, died on Monday, August 24, 2015 in his home. He was born on February 21, 1937 in La Crosse to Walter and Margaret (Miller) Roth. Dick graduated from Aquinas High School in 1955. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Gerke on July 13, 1963. Dick had a distinguished military career, serving for 34 years and retiring as a 1st sergeant with the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Engineers. He was an avid hunter, sportsman, fisherman and gun enthusiast who enjoyed all outdoor activities. He was a member of the La Crosse Rifle Club and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish.
He is survived by his wife Betty, six children, Patty (Dan) Moe, Judy (Jeff) Blank, Andy, Bob, Karla (Brad) Thompson, and Mark, four grandchildren, Ethan and Nora Blank and Katelyn and Taylor Thompson, a sister Mary Francis (Jim) Leef, a sister-in-law Alfrieda “Peep” Roth, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John and a sister Ann Baracliff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Peter Raj will officiate. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse on Sunday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Aquinas Catholic Schools or Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration.
