Corrine Audrey Kohnert

Corrine Audrey Kohnert, 95 of La Crosse passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at the Brookdale Villas where she had been a resident for three years. A lifelong resident of La Crosse, Corrine was born on January 9, 1920 to James and Hattie (Schneider) Kabat. Corrine married Curt Kohnert and the celebrated 67 years together until he preceded her in death in 2009. Her brother James also preceded her in death.
Corrine was a career nurse graduating from the St. Francis School of nursing in 1941. She worked for 25 years at St. Francis Hospital and 16 years at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse in the health center. In her retirement she volunteered many hours at St. Francis Hospital.
Her family was very important to her; she is survived by her daughter Kay (Robert) Davis of La Crosse, her sons Michael (June) Kohnert of La Crosse and Peter (Alma) Kohnert of Onalaska, grandchildren Christine (Tom) Wootton of Atlanta, GA, Kari (Carl Mauer)Davis of Middleton, WI, Lance (Tina) Chedester of Phoenix, AZ, great grandchildren Courtney and Nicholas Wootton, Merritt and Tavi Mauer, Christopher Chedester and Brianna Graham.
Her friends were also very important to her. A special thanks to everyone who visited her at the Villas. She always enjoyed conversing and was always interested in the lives of others. Lastly, her faith was always with her. Her family would like to thank the Cathedral staff especially Jean who provided an important religious link for her for many years and became a good friend. The family is also appreciative for the care provided by the Mayo Health System Hospice workers and the staff at Sterling House.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Friday, August 28, 2015 in the Marian Chapel of the Cathedral of St. Joseph The Workman. Very Rev. Monsignor Charles Stoetzel will officiate. Private family burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on the family Friday morning at the church from 9am until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Corrine Kohnert Nursing scholarship which will be established at the Viterbo School of Nursing.
