Vi A. Kohlmeier, 93 of La Crosse died on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Benedictine Manor. She was born August 12, 1921 in Hokah, MN to John and Anna (Tschumper) Lehmann. On August 6, 1943 she married George “Bud” Kohlmeier in Riverside, CA. where Bud was serving in the Army. After 55 years of marriage he preceded her in death on November 20, 1998. Vi and George farmed together on Grandad’s Bluff where she enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens and her raspberry patch. Vi was a great cook and everyone enjoyed her fried chicken dinners and her special cinnamon rolls. She loved to hide her baked goodies, but always hid them in the same place so Bud could easily find them to share with the grandkids. She and Bud enjoyed many trips together and she especially enjoyed her games of bingo, euchre, shaking dice and visiting the casino.
Vi’s happy optimism was infectious and she was always ready with a smile, and once you met her she considered you a friend forever. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she will be missed by all. Vi’s favorite quote through her health struggles was “Better Days Are Coming!” Mom, you now have found your “Better Days.” God Bless you mom and grandma and thanks for the memories.
Vi is survived by three children; Judy (Roger) Muetzel of Sheboygan, WI, George (Jeanne) Kohlmeier and Jim (Pam) Kohlmeier both of La Crosse; six grandchildren, Lori (Mark) Koblitz, Paul Muetzel, Jim (Cheryl) Kohlmeier, Cindy (Darren) Springborn, Shelley (Kurt) Tuzinkewich and Mark Kohlmeier; nine great-grandchildren, Meghann, Anna, Sawyer, Zach, Karlie, James, Evan, Sarah and Alivia; a sister, Florence Frank of La Crescent, MN; a sister-in-law, Ruby Kohlmeier of La Crosse and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband Bud, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Leona Lehmann, Hilda Limberg and Angie Schiltz; two brothers, Julius and Edward Lehmann and 10 brothers and sisters-in-law, along with nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon Wednesday, August 5th at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. Peter Raj officiating. Burial will follow in Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse on Tuesday from 4:30-7:30 PM where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM; and again at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the time of Mass.
Vi’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the entire staff at Benedictine Manor for their love and support during her stay.
