LA CROSSE, WI: David Loomis passed away July 14, 2015, surrounded by friends and family at Gundersen Health Care. Dave was born in La Crosse on September 30, 1939, to Paul and Ethel (Stankey) Loomis. Even at an early age, Dave was a proud northsider, playing ball with many friends and cousins. He graduated from Logan High School in 1957 and served in the U.S. Army. Dave worked at the Trane Company and also tended bar at Roscoe’s Vogue. On June 10, 1967, he married Mary K. Anderson, also a northsider. Two wonderful sons, Paul and David, were born to this union.
Dave and his family moved to Spirit Lake, IA in 1973, where they lived for 14 years. There, Dave worked for Mc Quay, Inc. In 1974, Mary passed away and Dave became a single dad, a role at which he excelled. While in Spirit Lake, he worked on various city committees, served as a city councilman, and was a Director on the Board of the Mc Quay Credit Union. He was active in youth sports, both coaching and umpiring. He received his Bachelor of Science degree during this time from Buena Vista College. Following career moves to Colorado and Georgia, Dave returned to La Crosse in 1992, where he was the executive director of the Coulee Region Business Center until his retirement in 2013. He served the city of La Crosse as President of the WBIA, first president of the Logan Alumni Association, loyal member of American Legion Post #336 Onalaska and French Island Lions Club, and as a referee in many sports. Dave volunteered for the Children’s Miracle Network, the 16-inch Old Timers’ Annual Softball Tournament, the Oktoberfest Board of Directors, the Logan Booster Club (founder/board member/officer), the Crime Stoppers Board of Directors, the Onalaska Community Days, and the committees to name Franklin elementary school and renovate the northside beach shelter. Dave was honored as the Torchlight Parade Co-Marshal in 2000 and by the Logan High School Wall of Fame in 2002.
Dave will be remembered as a great father and friend to many. He is survived by sons Paul (Sona) and their son Reece from Colorado Springs, CO; David (Laura) and their sons, Jacob, Eli, and Ian from Loveland, CO; aunt Ruth Terrill; sisters-in-law Jean (Tom) Scarseth and Sue (Ed) Riley; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents Paul and Ethel, his sister Gloria Conway, and his grandson Jordan.
