Veronica C. Weibel, 98, of La Crosse, died on Friday, July 10, 2015, at the Bethany-
Riverside Nursing Facility with her loving family at her side.
She was born on May 17, 1917, in Sparta, Wis., to George H. and Mary (Muehlenberg) Ruetten. Veronica graduated from Sparta High School then went on to St. Francis School of Nursing, graduating in 1940.
Veronica married Isadore H. Weibel on June 14, 1941. She loved her friends and enjoyed getting together. She was involved with the St. Anne’s Altar Society and served as a Eucharistic minister for many years. She was also a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters. Veronica loved sewing and baking her famous peanut butter cookies and wonderful peach pie, along with favorite Christmas cookies.
Veronica worked outside of the home as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital in the Ob/Gyn department for fourteen years.
Veronica is survived by eight children, Cletus (Joan) Weibel of Holmen, Charles (Carole) Weibel of La Crosse, Mary Anne Conklin of West Salem, Lawrence (Colleen) Weibel of La Crescent, Eileen (Robert) Rusch of La Crosse, Paul (Suzie) Weibel of La Crosse, Daniel (Ann) Weibel of La Crosse, and Doris (Charles) Rislow of La Crescent; twenty grandchildren, Brian Weibel, Kristen (Scott) Beckwith, David Weibel, Julie (Charles) Knetter, Michelle Ledin Mahlum, Thomas Ledin, Kellie (Peter) Schmitz, Katie (Jeremy) Palbicki, John (Michelle) Weibel, Douglas (Toni) Rusch, Jennifer (Edward) Snow, Stephen (Jessica) Rusch, Vincent Weibel, Vance Weibel, Violet Weibel, Evelyn Weibel, Roseanna Howerton, Joellyn Weibel, Chad (Nikki) Rislow, and Kevin (Gina) Rislow; and twenty-nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Agnes Burnham of Sparta; and brothers, Charles (Maria) Ruetten of Phoenix, Ariz., Stephen (Ella) Ruetten of Sparta, and Anthony (Helen) Ruetten of Elm Mott, Texas; along with many nieces and nephews.
Veronica was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Isadore; sisters, Sister Faith Ruetten, Sophie Cote, and Rita Baumgartner; and a brother, George Ruetten, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 15th, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 South 13th St., La Crosse. Rev. Rick Roberts will officiate. Entombment will follow in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum in the Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse, where a prayer service will begin at 6:30 p.m., and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass on Wednesday at the church.
The family would like to express a most sincere thank you to the staff at Bethany-Riverside Nursing Facility and the Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare Hospice staff for their most generous and giving time for Veronica.
