Phyllis M. Molzahn, 84 of La Crosse passed away peacefully on Sunday July 5, 2015 at the Gundersen Health System. She was born January 20, 1931 to Frank and Anna (Mehren) Lepsch and graduated from Aquinas High School in 1949.
On September 2, 1950 she married Donald J. Molzahn and together they had four children; Barbara (Don) Blank, Donald (Jan) Molzahn, Jr., Patti (Mike) Fellenz and Shelley (Mark) Kallenbach. She is further survived by seven grandchildren; Chad (Rebecca) Blank, Abby (Thad) Glick, Heather (Chris) Hodge, Nick (Erin) Fellenz, Michelle (Chad) Powell, Betsy Kallenbach, Kyle (Amanda) Kallenbach; 10 great-grandchildren, Sydney and Chase Blank, Kaden, Kolton and Konnor Glick, Mackenzie and Max Hodge, Aimsleigh Powell, Kinley and Brock Kallenbach; brothers and sisters, Angie (Gus) Gschwind, Kathy Michel, Paul (Barb) Lepsch, Bob (Rose) Lepsch and Mary (Tom) Tenant. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald J. Molzahn, Jr; two brothers, Bill and Pete Lepsch and two sisters, Bea Mueller and Pat Fitzpatrick.
Phyllis performed as a drum majorette in the VFW from 1949-1950 and worked for several years as a claims agent for Klein and Son Insurance. She volunteered her time in the community and served as Senior Regent for the Moose Lodge. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and was the President of the American Legion Auxiliary from 1996-1997. Phyllis served as a National Baton Twirling Teacher and Judge from 1958-1968. She and her husband Don “Squeak” started The Debutantes Baton and Drum Corps. She enjoyed teaching and twirling for several years. Phyllis also enjoyed playing dominoes, bingo, going to the casinos, gardening and was a wonderful cook. She loved shopping and “returning her purchases.”
Phyllis was a social butterfly and was really good at “giving you the berries.” We love you “A whole bunch.”
Her family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Shelby Terrace for their patience and care for Phyllis over the last 3 years. Also to the staff at Gundersen Health System, especially nurses Jennie and Kelly, along with Doctors Weiss and Harbour for making her feel comfortable as she passed away peacefully.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, July 11th at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse with Deacon Richard Sage officiating. A private family burial will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
