Marie E. Becker, 90 of La Crosse died peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 surrounded by her loving family, as was her wish. She was born October 9, 1924 in the Town of Greenfield, WI to George and Elizabeth (LeJeune) Strittmater. Marie married her sweetheart, Sylvester Becker on September 18, 1947 and he preceded her in death on January 8, 2010.
She is survived by her children; Bonnie (Don) Johnson, Steve (Lori) Becker, Dan (Diane) Becker and Joann (Kevin) Hanson all of La Crosse, David (Catherine) Becker of Stoddard and Mary (John) Brennan of Onalaska. She is further survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Fitzpatrick of La Crosse; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Gilbeck of Coon Valley and Martha Becker of La Crosse. In addition to her husband Sylvester, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Erma Kendhammer and Leona Beyer and three brothers, Harold, George and Ervin Strittmater
Marie was a member of St. Ann’s Altar Society at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the grandmother’s club. She loved playing 500 Rummy, Sheepshead and Wahoo with anyone who would play with her, especially her family. She also enjoyed teaching these games to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie was a phenomenal cook and was known for her poppy-seed coffee cake and her canning, especially her pickles. Anyone who ever met her fell immediately in love with her. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 26th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Rick Roberts officiating. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum, Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-6 PM on Thursday at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue South where a rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM and again at the church on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred.
