Mela Jun Hiner, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 31st, 2015.
Sustained by her steadfast faith in Jesus, Mela battled cancer with courage and grace, inspiring all of those around her.
Mela was born on April 18, 1955 in Busan, South Korea. She raised her children in La Crosse, WI and fervently served her church and community. During her husband Colonel Charles P. Hiner's recent deployment to Seoul, South Korea, she proudly supported military spouses and their families by serving on the American Forces Spouses Club Ways and Means Committee.
In addition to her loving husband Chuck, Mela is survived by her children Joshua (Jessie) Potaracke and Jennifer Jun Potaracke, two grandchildren Morgan and Aaron, her family in South Korea, and many cherished friends. Mela's legacy of faith, love and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of her family.
Memorial services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at First Evangelical Free Church in Onalaska. Pastor Joel Fisher will officiate. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call on the family Wednesday morning at the church from 9am until the time of services.
