Henry J. “Hank” Fillner, 86 of La Crescent died accidentally on Friday, May 29, 2015. He was born July 23, 1928 in O’Galle, Wisconsin to Arthur and Grace (Webb) Fillner. He graduated from Aquinas High School in 1946. On July 2, 1949 he married Patricia Mairich in Minot, ND. She preceded him in death on February 18, 2012.
Hank had worked at Allis Chalmers for a year and then for Vic Hanker Dairy. From 1949 until his retirement in 1991, he worked as an electrician for Pappenfus Electric and was a member of the IBEW. Hank was a volunteer for Rotary Lights Holiday display for the past 20 years. He was an active honorary member of American Legion Post 52 and served as the longtime S.O.S breakfast cook. Hank readily volunteered at the Bethany Nursing Homes, tilling their annual gardens. He enjoyed working with stained glass, fishing and gardening. Hank served as a passionate and thoughtful caregiver to many friends and family members.
Hank is survived by two daughters; Dina (Terry) Blummer of Cottage Grove, MN and Lyne (Joel) Motylinski of Oakdale, MN; three grandchildren, Katie Blummer, Jason (Courtney) Motylinski and Drew (Michelle) Motylinski; four great-grandchildren, Avery and Madeline Motylinski and Ella and Riley Motylinski; along with two sisters, Janice Ferguson McCann of La Crosse and Doris (Jim) Melcher of Onalaska. In addition to his wife Patricia, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Beatrice De Florian and Bette Gerske.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 2nd at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse with Rev. Brian Konopa officiating. Entombment will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5-7 PM and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Memorials are suggested to the Rotary Lights or American Legion Post 52.
