Gerry Konop

October 2, 1937 — May 26, 2015

Geraldine “Gerry” Therese Konop, 77, of La Crosse, Wis., passed on to eternal life, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.

Gerry was born on October 2, 1937 in La Crosse, to Willard and Mina (Wuensch) Kubal. She graduated from Aquinas High School in 1955. She married her high school classmate, Martin Konop on June 27, 1959 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Gerry devoted her life to serving others. She was a dedicated FSPA prayer partner at St. Rose convent for 11 years, and a faithful volunteer at Hillview Health Care Center. She was an active parishioner at Mary, Mother of the Church parish where she was a member of the New Life Choir. Gerry retired from Skemp Grandview Clinic after 23 years. Prior to that, she was the IMC director at St. Pius School. Her hobbies included attending sports events (Go Blugolds!), enjoying kids and grandkids, playing cards with friends, fishing, reading, and being part of the Rebels. She loved the Packers and trips up north with family and friends.

Gerry’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Martin Konop; five children Timothy (Mary) Konop, Michael (Susan) Konop, Kate (Todd) Deml, Lynn Iverson, and Christopher (Kiley) Konop. She was a loving Grandma to her ten grandchildren Elizabeth (Matthew) Lunde, Rebecca (Chad) Wondra, Jason Konop, Amanda (Josh) Wendel, Melissa (Jake) Beran, Michael (fiancé Katie) and Tanner Deml, Nicholas and Kristin Iverson, and Declan Konop. She was the beloved GGMa to her nine great-grandchildren Annabelle, Louisa, and Timothy Lunde, Abram and Charlotte Wondra, Makenna and Graham Beran, and Mason and Madelyn Wendel. She is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Kloss and Patricia (Verdel) Holte and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Betty Kaufmann and Mary Saphner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 30th, at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Rev. Brian D. Konopa will officiate. Visitation will take place at the church beginning at 9:30 AM on Saturday. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family. Online guest book is available at www.schumacher-kish.com.

The Konop family offers their heartfelt thanks to Father Konopa, Deacon Sage, and Sister Kathy for their many visits and prayers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Mary, Mother of the Church building fund.

Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband, too, praises her: “Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all.” (Proverbs 31:28-29)
