Erma Faye Clarke

October 27, 1925 — May 3, 2015

Erma Faye (Wilson) Gudgeon-Clarke, 89 of La Crosse, went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully while at home on Sunday, May 3, 2015. She was born in Cashton, WI, on October 27, 1925 to Floyd and Hazel (Currier) Wilson. Erma married Harold Gudgeon of LaFarge, WI, on September 19, 1943. They lived in Cashton until his death on December 21, 1961. Erma attended Viroqua Teachers College for two years, then two years at UW-La Crosse and two summers were spent in Eau Claire, WI, to receive her certification to teach special Education. Erma moved to La Crosse in 1967 and there taught in the La Crosse school district for 25 years. On June 10, 1990 she married Rev. John Clarke and he preceded her in death on March 10, 2008. Erma was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Vera Gudgeon, brother Roger Wilson and step son Richard Clarke. She is survived by her children Carolyn (Roger) Benson of La Crosse, Nancy Steers of La Crosse, foster children John (Penny) Eirschele of Sun City, AZ, Gary Wesselman of St. Cloud, MN, step children Daniel (Mary Ann) Clarke of Madison, WI, David (Mary Carol) Clarke of Bloomington, MN, Ron (Renee) Clarke of Bismark, ND, as well as many grand children and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Erma was a kind compassionate person who enjoyed taking care of others and had a deep love for her special education classes. She loved being at her church and belonging to activities. She loved to travel and especially loved to be outdoors.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Sand Lake Wesleyan Church in Onalaska. Rev. Linda Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the Home Cemetery, rural Cashton. Friends may call on the family Thursday morning at the church from 9:30am until the time of services.
