Janice D. Otterson

November 14, 1929 — April 29, 2015

On Tuesday, April 29, 2015 a kind, gentle, loving and caring lady left this world. Janice D. Otterson, 85 of La Crescent, MN, passed away at the Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse with the sounds of her late husband Sid singing on the stereo in the background. She was born in La Crosse on November 14, 1929 to Raymond and Agnes (Solberg) Violette. She married Sid Otterson in La Crosse on June 11, 1950 and he preceded her in death on August 10, 2014.
Jan was a strong person of faith whose church life defined and shaped the person she was and the way she lived. She was an active volunteer who made countless quilts for the neonatal ICU. She was a selfless servant who always put everyone’s needs before her own and was a shining example to all of unconditional love. Jan enjoyed baking Christmas cookies, board games and parties with her family. She will be dearly missed and is now with her husband Sid and the countless others that are awaiting us in heaven. Her family will miss the daily “check ins” and the special after school visits by her granddaughter Mackenzie. Jan’s family would like to thank the staff at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center for their caring compassion and love during her stay.
Jan is survived by one daughter Kim Otterson of Browerville, MN, one son Dean (Susan) Otterson of La Crescent, (and now you will be able to come to the wedding together!) one granddaughter Mackenzie Otterson of Mankato, MN, one sister Rita (Paul) Pfingsten of Lexington, KY and one brother Ronald (Bonnie) Violette of Huntington Beach, CA. In addition to her husband Sid and her parents Raymond and Agnes, she was preceded in death by her step mother Margaret.
Memorial services will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Prince Of Peace Lutheran church in La Crescent. Pastor Michael Woods will officiate. Private burial in the Onalaska City Cemetery will be at a later date. Friends may call on the family Saturday morning at the church from 10am until the time of services.
