Valeria "Val" M. Schumacher

Valeria M. “Val” Schumacher, 80, of Onalaska, died on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. She was born on April 10, 1935 in Romance, WI to Walter and Mae (Welch) Volk. Val was a graduate of Aquinas High School and had worked at the Trane Company until her retirement. She married Edwin “Eddie” Schumacher on October 17, 1953 in La Crosse. Val was a sassy, tough old bird who loved scratch offs, couldn’t keep a secret, and was a clean freak whose windows had to be spotless. She loved watching the Price is Right, Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, and the Voice, and going to the casino.
She is survived by seven children, Jeff (Mary) , Pete (Maureen), David (Patty), all of La Crosse, Paula (Fiancé’ Chris Kettner) Krause of Mazomanie, WI, Stevie (fiancé’ Carol) of Fond du Lac, WI, Ronnie (Carmen) of Menomonie, WI, and Kristy Schumacher of Chippewa Falls, WI, a granddaughter Kayla Schumacher who had lived with her for many years, a daughter-in-law Amy Mlsna, sixteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter, a sister, Pat (Kit) Vail of Minneapolis, and her dog Cinder. She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie on August 7, 2004, her son Jimmy on April 3, 2015, a grandson Michael, six brothers, Floyd, Jerry, Micky, John, Bobbie and Erv, and three sisters, Bea, Marian and Mary.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse. Msgr. Charles Stoetzel will officiate. Entombment will be in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 -7:00 and again on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. A Celebration for Val and her son Jimmy will be held on Saturday, May 16 from 12:00 Noon – 6:00 PM at the Copeland Park Oktoberfest Shelter. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on the 6th Floor Cardiopulmonary Unit at Gundersen Lutheran for their wonderful care.
