Joyce Marie (Ward) Dannhoff, 89, of La Crosse, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Hillview Health Care Center.
She was born in La Crosse on August 1, 1925, to Milton and Luella (Pengra) Ward. She married Albert C. Dannhoff in La Crosse on February 15, 1946. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1986.
Joyce is survived by her son, Douglas (Debbie) of La Crescent, Minn.; daughter, Diane (David) Sherwood of Long Lake, Minn.; and her foreign exchange student son, Claudio (Sonia) dos Santos of Brazil; by four grandchildren, Dirk Dannhoff of West Salem, Hannah (Jarod) VanderHorst of La Crosse, Cordelia Sherwood of Long Lake, Minn., and Danielle Garrison of Lawrence, Kan.; and three great grandchildren, Jordi and Leah Pasch and London VanderHorst, all of La Crosse. Joyce is also survived by three siblings, Marjorie (Lawrence) Edwards of Waycross, Ga., Carol Hansen of La Crosse, and Milton (Shirley) Ward of Crossville, Tenn.; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Albert, Joyce was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Darwin Ward; daughter, Jennifer; daughter-in-law, Deborah Carlson-Dannhoff; and many loved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Joyce graduated from Central High School in the January class of 1944. Besides being a homemaker, Joyce worked in the Receiving Rooms at both Montgomery Ward and Sears. Earlier in her life, she worked at Bellrude Daycare.
Joyce had been a member since the spring of 1937 of First Baptist Church in La Crosse, where she served on different boards and committees throughout the years. She was also a volunteer for the Red Cross for the blood drives at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
She absolutely loved her family and friends and cherished the times we were able to spend together.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25th, at First Baptist Church, 1209 Main St., La Crosse. Rev. Dr. Timothy Ashley will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family.
