Alfred A. Knorr

Alfred A. “Al” Knorr, 88, of La Crosse, died on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born on August 10, 1926 in Kaukauna, WI to Arthur and Edna (Koepke) Knorr. Al attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Kaukauna High School. He served with the US Navy and was stationed in Virginia Beach and San Diego. After his military service Al attended Lawrence College in Appleton and received his Master’s Degree in Social Work from UW-Madison. He married Jean Johnson on December 29, 1949 in Madison. Al’s career in social work started in Racine, WI. After moving to La Crosse he worked with Family Services, UW-La Crosse, and Gundersen Lutheran before starting his own practice in 1975. He retired in 1992. Al enjoyed playing cards, especially duplicate bridge.
He is survived by his wife Jean, two sons, David Knorr of Leavenworth, KS and Eric Knorr of
Walworth, WI, and two grandsons, Benjamin and Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Pamela Knorr, and a brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert (Marian) Knorr.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 11:30 AM at Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church. Pastor Robert Wassermann will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:30 AM until the time of services. Memorials may be given to Mt. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church or Luther High School.
