Therese “Terri” Margaret Levi, 75, passed away in the comfort of her Onalaska home on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 after a brief and brave battle with ALS. Her strong Catholic faith, belief in everlasting life and the prayers of family and friends gave her great comfort in her final months.
Terri was born to David and Mary (Fleming) Boland of Seneca, WI on January 15, 1940. She bravely survived a life threatening scare when she contracted polio as an infant. She worked her way through Viterbo College, earned a degree in medical technology and worked briefly at St. Francis Hospital and Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse after graduation in 1962. She married Wayne Levi on December 29, 1962 and started a family soon after. Her children; David (1963), Laura (1967) and Sara (1974) were all born at St. Francis Hospital and each graduated from Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Aquinas High School. All three children also graduated from private colleges and began families of their own. She enjoyed 10 grandchildren; David, Claire and Lucy Kloiber, Lily, Evy and Patrick Knapp, and Jack, Molly, Charley and Griffin Levi.
She lived selflessly until her children were out of college. Then, she and her husband Wayne traveled the world and visited many places around the world; including the Vatican, the Holy Land, Australia, Costa Rica and Alaska. She and her life-long friends enjoyed golf, bridge and casual restaurants. Her favorite interest, however, was volunteering at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Shelby, WI. She was involved in the Shrine for years and loved volunteering in the Votive Chapel there.
Terri and her husband were heavily involved in Blessed Sacrament Parish in La Crosse for more than 45 years. Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life and she enjoyed any social or religious event that brought her in touch with the Church.
Terri is survived by her husband Wayne and all three of her children; David (Tammy) Levi of Minneapolis, MN, Lori (Bob) Kloiber and Sara (J.P.) Knapp both of Charlotte, NC; 10 grandchildren; her siblings, Marita Crowley, Fritz (Carol) Boland, Sister Jane Boland and Helen (Mike) Melde, along with brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Nancy Hilby. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Patrick Boland and in-laws, John and Laura (Christen) Levi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 11th at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in La Crosse with Rev. Peter Raj officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be held in the Community Center at Blessed Sacrament following the entombment. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. S. La Crosse on Friday from 5-7 PM where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM; and again at the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. The family gratefully declines flowers and donations, but asks that all prayers, Masses and donations be directed to Blessed Sacrament Parish in La Crosse and Gundersen Hospice Program.
The family would like to thank the Gundersen Hospice Staff and Dr. Udell for the great care and concern they afforded Terri in the final days, which allowed her to remain in her home for the duration of her illness.
