Cora L. Young

Cora L. Young, 87 of Onalaska, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. She was born May 15, 1927 in Turrell, Arkansas to Clinton and Maggie (Hill) Ball. She moved with her older sister, Bessie to Chicago when she was 15 years old. It was in Chicago that she met and married Temp Young. She was the mother of seven children and three adopted children.
Cora eventually moved to and settled in La Crosse. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, dancing, and spending time with family. Cora also loved to care for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to share stories about her life as a child and about her parents, brothers and sisters and preaching the goodness of Jehovah’s Kingdom. She loved and cared for countless others as if they were her own and was a “mother” to many. She kept her family together with many family gatherings. Cora had worked for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant and childcare provider.
Cora is survived by her children; Rosie Berry and Valerie Young both of Onalaska; Kevin Young and Marcus (Brenda) Young both of La Crosse; adopted children, Ericka and Antoinette; grandchildren, Tommie “Bay Bay”, Rena, Angela, Lashun, LaShunda, Tanisha, Xavier, Bianca and Deon; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Tommie “Hook Bill”, Esau, Nathaniel, Bubba, Lavolya, Valece, Flora, Annie and Bessie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Temp and two children, Garcia Young and April McMorris along with two children who died at birth.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, April 4th at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1900 Bainbridge Street, French Island. Friends may call at the Kingdom Hall on Saturday from 12:30 P.M. until the time of service. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 6th in Oak Grove Cemetery.
