Rita Jean Oldenburg

Rita Jean Oldenburg, 82 of La Crescent, MN, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Benedictine Manor in La Crosse. She was born in La Crosse on January 16, 1933 to Victor and Ida (Mickschl) Zahn. She married Gary Oldenburg on June 14, 1952 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse, WI. Rita was an amazing and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved to spend her time with her family whenever possible. She was an avid Vikings fan and enjoyed watching and cheering at her loved ones sporting events. Her hobbies included bowling, knitting, watching game shows, and she loved the river during the summer. Rita often brought her beloved dog “Bruno” with her. Rita was one to light up any room and bring laughter to all.
She is survived by her loving husband Gary Oldenburg of La Crescent, MN, two children, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren. Survivors include her son Gale ( Karen) Oldenburg of La Crescent, and their children, Michael (Sara) Oldenburg, Kerry (Jeff) Jerue, Ashley Oldenburg, her son Gary “Puck” ( Lisa) Oldenburg of La Crescent, and their children, Jeremy (Amanda) Oldenburg, Nicole Oldenburg, Cody Oldenburg, Brittany Oldenburg. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 6pm on Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Church Of The Crucifixion in La Crescent. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on the family Friday afternoon at the church from 4pm until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Rita’s memory.
