Geneva M. Goede

Geneva M. Goede, 96, of La Crescent, died on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

She was born in New Hartford Township in rural Nodine, Minn., on January 19, 1919, to Edgar and Dorothy (Ready) Pagel. She married Gale Papenfuss on July 20, 1940, and he preceded her in death on April 6, 1950. She then married Victor Goede on September 17, 1954, and he preceded her in death on November 30, 1974.

Geneva was a loving wife and mother and a devoted grandmother. She loved gardening and was a wonderful homemaker and cook who was best known for her delicious apple pies. She enjoyed dancing, especially polka dancing, and loved playing euchre with family and friends.

Geneva is survived by her four children, Elona (Papenfuss) Stanton of La Crescent, Mavis (Papenfuss) Millie and her husband, Laurel, of La Crescent, Janice (Papenfuss) Baker, and her husband, Gene, of Minnesota City, Minn., and Douglas Goede and his wife, Janice, of La Crescent; nine grandchildren, Robin Stanton, Tammy (Dean) Irvine, Robert (Nikki) Stanton, Lisa Malec, Stacia (Doug) Thompson, Craig (Amy) Millie, Carla Baker, Stephanie (Mike) Sulla, and Cole Goede; four step grandsons, Kevin (Kelly) Boldt, Bryan (Melissa) Boldt, Shawn (Lindsay) Boldt, and Craig (Jolene) Boldt; fourteen great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; a sister, Donna Klinkhammer of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister-in-law, Glenna Pagel, living in California; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her two husbands, Geneva was also preceded in death by an infant great granddaughter, and three siblings, Beverly Malenke, Eldon Pagel, and Palma Gady.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 18th, at First Ev. Lutheran Church, 414 Main St., La Crescent. Pastor Chris Christenson will officiate. Burial will follow in Hiler Cemetery in Nodine. Family and friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 111 South Oak St., La Crescent, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church.

Geneva’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the friends and staff at Golden Living Center in La Crescent for the wonderful, affectionate care they gave her during her stay there.
