Phillip J Dawson

Phillip J. Dawson, 83 of La Crescent, MN, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in La Crescent. He was born in Sioux Falls, SD on February 10, 1931 to Ray and Margaret (Berrier) Dawson. He married Marlene E. Bjelland at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills Iowa on June 9, 1957.
Phillip had proudly served his country with the United State Navy and was a member of the Gittens Leidel American Legion Post 595 in La Crescent. His greatest passions were automobiles, manicuring his lawn and grilling for his family. Phil was also President of the Prince of Peace Cemetery Committee for several years. He worked many years in sales and eventually retired as a security guard at Xcel Energy. Phil will be remembered for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He will be sadly missed.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents and son, Mark Dawson. Phil is survived by his wife, Marlene, daughter-in-law Connie Dawson of Prior Lake, MN, sons Todd (Christie) Dawson of Houston, MN, Paul Dawson of Dresbach, MN, John (Anna) Dawson of La Crosse, WI, brother Jim (Anita) Dawson of Turlock, CA, three half-brothers, Jim (Joan) Wermers, Tim (Millie) Wermers, Larry (Arlene) Wermers, five grandchildren, Zachary, Brett, Cody, Rylee, Taylor and one great grandchild, Aiden.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 21 N. Hill St., in La Crescent. Pastors Timothy Duesenberg and Michael Woods will officiate. Burial with military rites by the American Legion Post 595 will follow at Prince of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call on the family at the church Thursday evening from 5 until 8 pm and again at the church Friday morning from 10 am until the time of services.
