Delmer J. Secord, 88, of La Crosse, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015, at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Tomah.
He was born in La Crosse on January 3, 1927, to Lyle and Lillian (Stugenschmidt) Secord. He attended La Crosse schools and was a graduate of Central High School.
Delmer served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post 52 of La Crosse, V.F.W. Post 9399 of Apache Junction, Ariz., and was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1254 of La Crosse.
Delmer married the former Mary Margaret McCown in 1968 and she preceded him in death in 2005. He worked several jobs in the La Crosse area and retired as a maintenance worker at the La Crosse County Courthouse.
Survivors include his three daughters, Diana (Rodney) Gantka of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Linda (Wade) Bentzen and Dawn Kinard, both of La Crosse; eight grandchildren, Randy, Brenton, Tyler, Dennis, Becky, Jacci, Virginia, and Crystal; sixteen great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Lois, Lorraine, Lila, and Alice; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Mary, Delmer was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Bobby and Raymond.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, January 30 th , at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. Pastor Richard Pamperin will officiate. Burial, with military honors will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.
