James M. “Jim” Bogdan, 67, died peacefully in his home in La Crosse on Friday, December 26, 2014.
He was born on October 3, 1947, in Long Beach, Cal., to George and Marjorie (aka Carol) Bogdan. Jim was a “Renaissance Man” as evidenced by his broad range of interests and expertise. He loved music, especially that of Bach and the classical pipe organ. He enjoyed his piano and was a builder of pipe organs. Jim was a writer, poet, photographer, as well as a printer (master of the Heidelberg press).
Jim was also a problem solver. He would prefer to repair than replace, using his skills as a woodworker and iron fabricator, and always wanted to fully understand how things work. If he wanted something, he was likely to make one rather than go out and buy one.
Jim had a thirst for knowledge and also had interests in science, philosophy, history and politics. He recognized good sound, good food, and what was required to bring pleasure to the eye. He quoted scripture, an outcome of his early days with his grandmother.
Jim had a great concern for his community. He moved to La Crosse in the early 70s in search of a high quality of life and was an active member of the community. Jim will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who always had time for his friends to either lend an ear or help them however he could. He will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. Pastor Ted Dewald will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service. A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held at a later date. Online guestbook is available at www.schumacher-kish.com.
