Joseph Herman Brown

Joseph Herman Brown, 94, of Dakota, MN, died on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Onalaska Care Center. He was born in Erwin, SD on November 8, 1920 to Earl and Iso (Muser) Brown. Joseph was a US Army veteran of WWII. He married Mary Ann Papenfuss on November 20, 1954 in Lead, SD. He had worked in the gold mines in Lead before moving to Dakota. He then worked at Norplex for 30 years and then at the Dresbach Information Center until his retirement in 2004. Joseph was a volunteer fireman in Dakota for 32 years, and a member of the Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595 in La Crescent.
He is survived by five children, Bruce (Patty) Brown of Houston, MN, Luanne (Allen) Bedward of Desoto, WI, Linda Olson of Winona, Russell (JoDee) Brown of Dakota and Lisa (Linzey) Locke of Onalaska, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Marcella Brown of Jasper, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann, a son-in-law Roger, two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Nodine, MN. Pastor Dennis Harbach will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Bush Cemetery, rural Nodine. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
