Obituary: LISA JOAN KERR
Lisa Joan Kerr of Onalaska, Wisconsin died at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center after an extended illness. She was sixty three years old at the time of her passing on Friday, December 19, 2014.
Lisa was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 1, 1951 to her parents; James Roy Jackson and Gladys Elizabeth (Greiner) Jackson.
She attended Cass Tech High School and studied Performing Arts. She enjoyed piano, and dance. She attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor attaining a BA degree in Sociology.
She worked as secretary for the Pastoral Care Department at the University of Michigan Hospitals. She was also personal secretary to Steve Clark, a noted teacher in Catholic Renewal.
She was a committed member of the Word of God Christian Community, and worked hard to prepare herself for a life of service to the Church. She developed many deep and meaningful friendships that continued to be a strength to her.
She married Bruce J. A. Kerr MD on September 10th, 1983. They were blessed with only child and son Karl James Jay Kerr on March 17th, 1986. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Bluffton, Indiana where, in addition to being a homemaker, she was active in their local congregation. She also was active in Lutherans for Life, and LWML, a women’s missions organization.
In 1996 the family moved to Onalaska, Wisconsin. She became a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. She worked as church secretary there until her illness prevented her from continuing. She was active in supporting Deaf Ministry both in the local congregation and at the level of the District. She also found time to serve on the Onalaska Food Pantry Board, and took great personal satisfaction in supporting that work. She had many friends, touched many lives, and absolutely loved people.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Bruce Jay Arthur Kerr, MD, son; Karl James Jay of Fridley, MN and brother; Paul Eric Jackson of Cincinnati, OH and by many other relatives and many friends.
Lisa was preceded in death by her parents and other relatives.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 1215 Redwood, Onalaska, with Rev. Donald Stein officiating.
Family and friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of Onalaska, 907 Sand Lake Road and on Sunday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the Spring Grove Cemetery, Spring Grove, MN.
