Alfred W.C. “Al” Schulze, 88 of La Crosse, died on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Hillview Healthcare Center. He was born in La Crosse on September 3, 1926 to William and Frieda (Nichols) Schulze. He married Carol Horman in Onalaska on June 9, 1951.
Al was a United States Army Veteran who was dedicated to military service throughout his life. He served as former president of Wisconsin State Association of County Veterans Service Commission, former SW Regional Coordinator of La Crosse County for the Wisconsin Association of County Veterans Service Commission, former member of La Crosse County Veterans services, life member of Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530 La Crosse, former commander of the VFW 11th District, life member of American Legion Post 336 Onalaska, life member of chapter 275 Korean War Veterans Association, VA Voluntary Services volunteer for Tomah VA and River Valley Clinic La Crosse, VA Voluntary Services Executive Committee member of Tomah.
Al had worked at the Trane Company of La Crosse for 36 years. In his free time he loved feeding and talking to birds on a daily basis, he enjoyed golfing and bowling with family and friends along with hunting and fishing with his brother Bob and their friends in Door County.
In addition to his wife Carol of La Crosse, he is survived by one son Steve (Kim Knorr) Schulze of Madison, WI, four grandchildren Jared (Becca) Schulze of Delafield, WI, Stefanie (Rob) Meyers of Cedar Rapids, IA, Michael Schulze of the Twin Cities, Jillian Schulze of Madison, one brother Bob (Evie) Schulze of Coon Valley, WI and one cousin Elizabeth Pederson of Holmen, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank the following people and organizations; the staff and assistants at Rescare Homecare of La Crosse, everyone at Mayo Health Systems, especially Hospice Home Care, the medical services area of the VA in Tomah, River Valley Clinic, Hillview Healthcare Center and the La Crosse County Aging Unit Coordinating staff.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Pastor Richard Pamperin will officiate. Burial with military rites provided by the Thomas Rooney VFW Post 1530 will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call on the family Saturday morning at the church from 9:30am until the time of services.
