James W. Gegenfurtner

James W. Gegenfurtner, 72 of Onalaska, died on Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Gundersen Health System. He was born in La Crosse on August 26, 1942 to Walter and Dolores (Harm) Gegenfurtner. He had proudly served his country in the National Guard and Army Reserve and was an active member of Onalaska American Legion Post 336. He had retired from the La Crosse Fire Department after 28 years of service, having achieved the rank of Captain.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years Linda (Tabbert) Gegenfurtner of Onalaska, their three daughters, Laurie (John) McKenzie, Connie (Scott) Hauser, Chris (Robert) Vieaux; one son, James (Heidi) Gegenfurtner, his grandchildren, Nolan, David, Mara and Killian McKenzie, Danielle, Allie and Zachary Hauser, Brooke and Taylor Vieaux, Megan and Tucker Gegenfurtner, his sister in law, Debra (Ronald) Heller, nephews, Bradley (Melanie) Heller, Johnathan (Jill) Heller, Great Nephews, Kreston Reynolds and Harper Heller. He is further survived by many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Onalaska. Monsignor Steven Kachel will officiate. Private burial, with military rites by the Onalaska American Legion Post 336, will take place in the Onalaska City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to mass.
