Luella Alona Graf

Luella Alona Graf, 94 of Brownsville, MN passed away to her eternal home on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Clara House in La Crescent. She was born December 26, 1919 to Edward and Vivian (Johnston) Flatten in Yucatan Township, Houston County MN. She attended district 19 grade school and graduated from Houston High School. She attended Western Wisconsin Technical Institute and later was employed as a secretary at the Houston County Agriculture office in Caledonia, MN. On June 29, 1944 she married Lawrence F. Graf at St. John’s Catholic church in Caledonia. Luella and her husband farmed on German Ridge until moving to Brownsville in 1988. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Rosary society and church choir for several years. She was a 4-H leader for several years and a member of the German Ridge Homemakers. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed gardening, cooking, travelling, dancing and playing cards and games with her grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed entertaining many family members and friends while living on their farm and at their home in Brownsville.
She is survived by her seven children; Larry (Elaine) Graf of La Crescent, Rosanne (Bernard) Buehler of La Crescent, Marie (Ron) Clare of Trego, WI, Cecil (Lisa) Graf of Hokah, MN, Steve Graf of Sioux Falls, SD, Phil (Michele) Graf of La Crescent and Janelle (Dr. Kevin) Jennings of Burlington, IA; seventeen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, two infant sons, one grandson Nick Clare, one brother Leonard and one sister in law Betty Flatten.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brownsville. Rev. Matt Fasnacht will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Hokah. Friends may call on the family Saturday morning at the church from 9:30am until the time of Mass.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Clara House for their wonderful care, kindness and compassion during Luella’s extended stay. Also a sincere thank you to Dr. Jennifer Nordstrom and the staff from Mayo Health System Hospice for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used for educational endowments in the area.
