Virgil Eugene Hegg, 85, of La Crosse died Saturday November 29, 2014, peacefully at his home.
He was born November 2, 1929 in Madison, Minnesota to Emil and Blanche (Lindseth) Hegg.
Virgil graduated from Maynard (MN) High school in 1949. He Joined the U.S. Army in 1951 during the Korean War. He married Patricia Dorschied on June 27, 1953 and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2008.
Virgil is a graduate of Western technical college. He worked at Trane Company his entire adult life until he retired at age 60. He was a disabled veteran and very active in Veteran Affairs. He was elected Commander of the VFW multiple times between 1993-2002. Commander of the DAV twice between 2002-2007, and Commander of La Crosse County Veteran Council from 2003-2004. He was a life member of the VFW, DAV, Korean War Veterans Association, and the American Legion.
Virgil loved to travel throughout the U.S. with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Virgil is survived by his children; Barbara (Jane) Flowers of Glenville, MN; David (Claire) Hegg of Ogden, Utah; and Katherine (Harlan) McLain of La Crosse. Grandchildren; Jessie (Brittany) Osborne; Lucas (Desiree) Osborne; Alissa, Emily and Megan McLain. Three great grandchildren; Mollie, Isabelle, and Henry Osborne.
In addition to his wife Patricia, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas in 2011; his parents Emil and Blanche; stepmother Edith; his twin sister Virginia, and two older sisters Dorothy and Lorraine.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 5th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 4141 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse with Rev. Harald Bringsjord officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.
A lunch at the VFW Post 1530, 630 S. 6th Street in La Crosse will follow the services.
