God gave the gift of faith in his Son Jesus to Gertrude Groth during her life on earth, and in death he gave her the gift of new life in heaven through Jesus. Gert peacefully entered glory Monday morning, November 10, 2014 in her home. She was born on March 31, 1923 in Luxemburg, WI to Gerhardt and Ida (Kempfert) Falck. She married Raymond Groth on May 25, 1946 in Milwaukee, WI and he preceded her in death on September 30, 1991. Gert had worked at La Crosse Rubber Mills for 19 years. She enjoyed playing cards and was happy to pass down her interest in cards to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the first National Lutheran Girl Pioneer Council, Lutheran Girl Pioneers at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Luther High School Auxiliary and Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. Gert maintained her sharp wit and humor until the end.
She is survived by her children Jan (David) Spurlock of Waterford, WI, Don (Lynn) Groth of Muskego, WI and Barb Groth of La Crosse, WI, grandchildren Eryn (Randy) Gutche of Burlington, WI, Alex Spurlock of Kenosha, WI, Brian Groth of Yuma, AZ and Steve Groth of Muskego, WI, great grandchildren Cayla & Rhyse Gutche of Burlington, WI, a sister Irma Flaningam of Meridian, ID along with three nieces and one nephew. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and a grand-daughter Dana Spurlock.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1201 Avon St., La Crosse. Pastor David Leistekow will officiate. Entombment will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Luther High School. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Hospice for their loving care for Gert and their constant support for the family. The Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse is assisting the family.
