Gloria Jean Reed, 68 of La Crescent, MN, passed away on November 8, 2014 due to complications during her battle with lung cancer. She was born in Spring Valley, MN, on March 30, 1946 to Erwin and Irene (Winters) Rathbun.
She married Wayne Reed on May 29, 1964 in Spring Valley, MN. They lived in the Dakota, MN, area for 29 years before moving to Rushford, MN. In August of 2014, they moved to La Crescent. Gloria worked as a housekeeper at St. Francis hospital for 13 years and then worked at Riverside Electronics in Lewiston, MN until her retirement. The greatest joys of her life were her children and grandchildren. She loved going out for countryside rides with Wayne and also enjoyed visiting the casinos. She was also known for making the best potato salad and it was always a favorite at special occasions. She had a loving heart for family.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 50 wonderful years, Wayne Reed of La Crescent, her daughter Teresa (Randy) Cross of Dresbach, MN, her son Thomas Reed of La Crescent, MN, her grandchildren, Misty Martin and Kyle Cross, Jeremy Wick, Dylan and Collin Reed, as well as great granddaughters Kora and Jayden. She is further survived by her mother Irene, her sisters Judy (Ken) Long, Marcy McNiff, and Sherry (Ron) Bornholdt all of Spring Valley, MN, her mother-in-law Helen Reed of Spring Valley, MN, brother-in-law Kenny (Marie) Reed of La Crosse, WI, sisters-in-law Sherry (Dale) Nelson of Rose Creek, MN, Carol (David) Olson of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Glenda (Les) Hillman of Austin, MN and Candy (Steve) Curran of Stewartville, MN plus many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Erwin Sr., her brothers Erwin Jr. and William, her sister Pauline Kinnear, father-in-law Barney Reed, nephew Brad McNiff and niece Christine Schlee.
Memorial services will be held at 11am on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crescent chapel; 111 S. Oak St. Pastor Luanne Sorenson will officiate. A luncheon will follow at the Nodine fire station. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Friends may call on the family Thursday evening at the funeral home from 4 until 6pm and again at the funeral home on Friday from 10am until the time of services.
