Lois Ann Bolliger

Lois Ann (Doan) Bolliger, 90 of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility in La Crosse, WI. She had been in declining health for the past several years.
She was born November 1, 1923 in Escanaba, MI, to Leslie Amos and Verna (Miller) Doan. She grew up in Trenton, MI, and was a graduate of Slocum Truax High School. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit, MI. She married Dr. Eugene Frederick Bolliger, December 16, 1946, at Grace Methodist Church, Trenton, Michigan.
While her husband was serving as a surgeon in the U.S. Army, she joined him at Munchweiler, Germany; Pirmasson, Germany; and Wurzburg, Germany. She worked as the night charge nurse at Madigan Army Hospital in Ft. Lewis, WA.
After completion of her husband’s military service, the family moved to Eden Prairie, MN, and then Ellendale, ND. While raising her family in Ellendale, she worked as a nurse, cared for her extensive garden and orchard and was active at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale. After stays at Eden Prairie, MN; Chamberlain, SD; and Gregory, SD; her husband retired from the practice of medicine in 1994.
She traveled extensively and then moved to Del Webb Communities in Huntley, Illinois, in 1999. While in Huntley, she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and pursued her interest in gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Eugene who passed away in 2013. She is survived by her children, Mark Bolliger of Black River Falls, WI, Glen (Linda) Bolliger of Andover, MA, Cynthia Bolliger-Bartley of Onalaska, WI, and five grandchildren, Nicole Bolliger, Matthew Bolliger, Leslie Bartley, James Bartley, Jr. and Julia Bartley.
Memorial Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 1, 2014, in the Faith and Life Center at Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility, 2575 South 7th St. La Crosse. Pastor Donald Stein will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation; 200 SE First St. suite 800; Miami FL. 33131 The Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crosse chapel is assisting the family.
