Roger C. Saley

Roger C. Saley, 72 of Onalaska, passed away at his home on Friday, October 10, 2014. He was born September 20, 1942 in La Crosse to Clifford and Helen (Eckhardt) Saley, Sr. Roger served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War for three years until his discharge. On August 12, 1967 he married Margaret McKinney in La Crosse.
Roger worked as a mechanic for the G. Heileman Brewery in La Crosse for 43 years until his retirement. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 695, Onalaska American Legion Post 336, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1254 and a former member of Grand Voiture 40et 8 and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1920.
In addition to his wife Margaret, he is survived by four children; Mark (Mishelle Gulley) Saley of Onalaska, Lori Saley-Sands of Onalaska, Lisa Kiedrowski of Chaska, MN and Tami (Mike) Starr of Onalaska; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy (Maria) Saley, Brittany, Trevor, Alexandria, Megan and Ashley Saley, Jordan and Jakob Sands, Josephine Kiedrowski, Alicia and Tasha Starr; a great-granddaughter, Venice Rose Romskog, who affectionately called her great-grandfather, “Bah Roger”; a brother, August Saley of Downey, CA; three sisters, Jean (Ken) Happel of Crossville, TN, Judith Voorhees of Tecumseh, MI and Mary Volden of La Crosse along with numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and his two cats, Willie and Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Clifford, Jr., John, Gerald, Robert and William Saley; parents-in-law, Earl and Jesse McKinney and a grandson, Joshua James Saley.
Memorial services will be held at 5:30 PM Thursday, October 16th at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse with Rev. Jenny Arneson officiating. Military honors provided by Onalaska American Legion Post 336 will follow. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 PM until the time of services.
