Richard V. “Dick” “Hooker” Juen, 74 of La Crosse, passed away at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. He was born in La Crosse on July 26, 1940 to Oscar and Mabel (Schmidt) Juen. He married Virginia Opdahl in La Crosse on February 10, 1968. Dick had retired from Trane Company after 28 years of work as a machinist. He loved working in his garden and had volunteered his time for 13 years at the community garden as well. He loved to ride his bike or as he called it his “Cadillac” and also enjoyed playing cards with his wife.
In addition to his loving wife Virginia of 48 years, he is survived by two daughters; Wendy (Dan) Christofferson of Alexandria, VA, Lisa (Karl) Bekkum of Sheboygan, WI, five grandchildren, Sarah Beth and Sean Darr of King George, VA, Jenna, Jonah and Caleb Bekkum of Sheboygan, two great grandchildren, Riley Burgess and Isaac Rodrigues both of VA. He is further survived by two sisters, Eleanor (Roger) Ebert of Sparta, WI, Mary Jane Hackett of Onalaska, WI, one brother Donald (Lois) Juen of La Crosse. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son Scott Richard Juen, one sister Darlene Haines and three brothers Jerry, Duane and Kenneth Juen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at St. James The Less Catholic Church in La Crosse. Rev. Robert Schaller will officiate. Burial will be in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call on the family at the church on Tuesday morning from 9am until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Judes Children’s Hospital. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crosse chapel is assisting the family.
