Miriam I. Tanke, 81, of La Crosse and Onalaska died peacefully September 28th, surrounded by family at the Lakeview Health Center. She was the beloved wife of Edward C. Tanke for 62 years. Miriam was a devoted and loving mother to Steven (Suzanne) Tanke, Lynn (Dean) Tanke Woodward, Tim (Melissa) Tanke, and Scott (Jennifer) Tanke. It was her joy to be the loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters: Marilyn Levine and Ruth Miller and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one great grandson.
Miriam's parents were Salvation Army officers and came to La Crosse in 1946. She maintained a lifelong love of the Salvation Army and volunteered there happily for many years. She attended Asbury Methodist in La Crosse and later First Free Church in Onalaska.
Visitation will be from 9-11:00 a.m. Saturday October 4, at First Free Church, 123 Mason St. Onalaska. A memorial service will be immediately following at the church starting at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army of La Crosse (223 N. 8th Street, La Crosse 54601) or the Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Foundation (1900 S. Avenue La Crosse 54601). The family would also like to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at Lakeview Health Center for their care and compassion to Miriam during her stay there.
