Laverne M. Hendrickson

LaVerne M. Hendrickson, 96, of La Crosse and formerly of Onalaska, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Hillview Health Care Center. She was born on September 13, 1918 to Rudolph and Elsie (Boldt) Mark. She married Kennard Hendrickson on March 22, 1941 in La Crosse. LaVerne had worked for Allis Chalmers, the University of Illinois and the La Crosse County Court system. She also helped operate the grocery business that she and Kennard owned. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, DMV, Gundersen Lutheran and the Voting Polls. She was a member of the ReLaxIn Campers Club, a life- long member of the Church of Christ in both La Crosse and Onalaska where she served as Sunday school teacher, choir member, financial secretary and President of the Ladies Group. She was always willing to pick up anyone in need of transportation for Sunday services.
She is survived by her children Judy (Ronald) Hall of La Crosse and James (Sherrie) Hendrickson of Norton, OH, grandchildren Amy (Shannon) Deters, Erin (Ryan) Waldhart, Ashley (Sorin) Butaci and Matthew (Christina) Hendrickson, great grandchildren McKenzie & Jacob Deters, Connor, Isaac & Grace Waldhart, Lucian & Anca Butaci, sister and brother-in-law Arlene (Edwin) Schumacher along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Weldon and a sister Marjorie. The family wishes to thank the staff of Shelby Terrace and Hillview Health Care Center for caring for their Mom.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Onalaska Church of Christ, 1415 Well Street, Onalaska. Pastor Gordon Clary will officiate. Burial will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time of service. The Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
