Obadiah Jacob John Christenson was born November 3rd, 2005 at Mayo Health System, Lake City, MN to Rev. Christian and Elizabeth Christenson. He was reborn in the Holy Spirit and made a child of the God through Holy Baptism on November 13, 2005 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Lake City, MN by his father, Rev. Chris Christenson.
Obi grew in wisdom through God’s Word attending Little Lambs Preschool and Sunday School at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crescent, MN. Obi continued to grow in his faith while attending First Evangelical Lutheran School in La Crosse, WI. Obi looked forward to sharing his faith wanting to become a pastor when he grew up. He routinely went on pastor calls with his father to nursing home services and shut in visits. It was not unusual to see Obi making the residents smile as he passed out the hymns and shook their hands before leaving.
“Everybody loves Obi”, was a common phrase used to describe him. Obi was liked by many because he was a kind hearted boy who never thought negatively of anyone. He enjoyed his days at school and looked forward to spending time with his friends. Obi loved his family and looked up to his siblings. Obi was his mama’s little helper and was never far from her side. He looked forward to family gatherings, spending time with his many relatives.
Obi enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and boating, playing kickball and football, swimming and riding bike. He and the family together enjoyed playing Wii, assembling legos and playing board games. He loved drawing, coloring and painting. He received national recognition in the Children’s Miracle Network White Cloud Tissue Box contest earlier this year. Obi also loved to sing and wrote and recorded a song about his cancer battle and his trust in the Lord. He loved singing his favorite hymns and going to church with his family.
Obadiah fought the good fight of faith and on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, Obadiah fell asleep in the Lord and received the crown of everlasting life. All Glory Be to God.
Obadiah is survived by his parents, four siblings, Christian, Samuel, Jonah and Phoebe, as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents and all of his aunts and uncles and many cousins.
