Donovan “Don” Lee, 76 of La Crosse passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 at Gundersen Health System with his family by his side. Don was born in La Crosse on November 1, 1937 to Orvis P. and Edna (Messlien) Lee. He grew up in Westby, WI and attended Westby schools. After graduating he worked in Rockford, IL until moving to La Crosse in 1958. He and his father owned and operated two different filling stations in La Crosse. Don later began work for the La Crosse Trane Company and retired in 1997 after 33 years of service. Following his retirement he enjoyed shuttling cars for Brenengen Chevrolet.
Don married Elaine Subera on August 23, 1958. In addition to his wife Elaine, he is survived by three children; Barb Lee of Wisconsin Dells, WI, Doug Lee of La Crosse and Jeff (Peg) Lee of Whitewater, WI; four grandchildren, Andy (Amber) Lee of Onalaska, Travis (Reagan) Lee of Chaseburg, WI, Jacob and Jenna Lee both of Whitewater, WI; four great-grandchildren, Devin, Landon, Brooklyn and Aubrey. He is further survived by his cousins who he was very close to, Carol and Fred Hoyum and Gloria and Les Nelson; a sister-in-law, Bernice Kubarski and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron and Betty Subera. He will also be missed by many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother James and by his brother-in-law, Gene Kubarski.
Don and Elaine enjoyed many travels in their motorhome to Florida, Arizona, Texas and other trips. Camping in the area included many wonderful weekends with the Re-Lax-In Campers where he served as the club president numerous times. Don enjoyed fishing, especially the annual trips to Canada with his sons and grandsons. He was a die-hard Packer fan and enjoyed attending games. Don also was a Brewer and Badger fan. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where he served as an usher for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 24th at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 612 Division Street, La Crosse with Rev. Mark Jolivette officiating. Friends and family may call on Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse and again at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers and plants memorials may be directed to the family to be used for charities of their choice.
