Susan (Clumpner) Yolton, 75 of La Crosse died on Wednesday, September 17, 2014. She was born to G. Arthur and Inez Johnson in Ashland, WI on August 22, 1939. Susan attended Ashland High School and graduated with the class of 1957. She was the first woman nominated to be Senior Class President. Susan attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated with high honors in 1961 in occupational therapy. She completed internships in 1962 and further graduate work at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Susan enjoyed volunteer work, among them were: Coulee Council Board of Directors, Western Wisconsin Health Planning Commission, Delegate to the NCAA convention in Washington D.C., Riverfront panel member, Occupational Therapy Chairman for the Tri-State Hospital Convention in Chicago, WI, Occupational Therapy Association publications chairman, guest lecturer at UW-L, governor’s commission on alcoholism, deaconess at the Presbyterian Church in La Crosse, speaker at the chemical dependency unit at St. Francis, Salvation Army, Explorer Scouts healthcare and also attended Bethany Ev. Free Church.
Susan was the staff therapist at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis; the coordinator of patient services for Easter Seals in Elgin, IL; the Director of Occupational and Recreational Therapies and Outreach Programs at St. Francis Healthcare in La Crosse. She also worked as a crisis counselor at St. Francis and the Occupational Therapy at the La Crosse Health Care Center. She also worked for a time at La Crosse Floral.
Sue married Michael Clumpner in 1963 and was later divorced. She married Donald Yolton in 1982; he preceded her in death in 2007. Sue was grateful and blessed by her many dear friends and cousins, Jo Lind of Aurora, CO and Bill and Marilyn Haas of Bella Vista, AR. She is further survived by four step-children; Sharon (Greg) Karrels, Dan (Mary Ann) Yolton, Sandra Yolton and Derrick Yolton.
Sue’s hobbies included playing the flute and piano, artwork, needlework, birding, traveling the northwoods and lakes, canoeing, the symphony, golfing and enjoying Badgers and Packers football games.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 23rd at Bethany Ev. Free Church, 3936 County Road B, La Crosse with Pastor Corey Sateren officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from noon until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army, Children’s Vision International in Bangor or St. Clare Health Mission.
