Shirley Mae (Straight) Bosworth, 76 of French Island, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Grand View Care Center in Blair, WI from complications of COPD and cancer.
She was born April 4, 1938 in Black River Falls, WI to Arthur and Lois (Waughtal) Straight. On June 6, 1956 she married Charles Christian Bosworth in Milwaukee, WI. They moved to Philadelphia, PA to be closer to family. When Charles became ill they moved back to the La Crosse area. After Charles’ death in 1977, Shirley worked as a nurse’s aide at Bethany-St. Joseph Care Center on the south side of La Crosse. She retired in 1996 when being diagnosed with COPD.
Shirley is survived by her seven children; Marie (Doug) of Lago Vista, TX, Charles (Cathy), Jr. of Ridgeland, WI, Randy of Holmen, Brenda (Dan) of Blair, Victoria (Robert) of Onalaska, Gregory (Heidi) of Onalaska and Glenn of Oshkosh; 27 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren with one more on the way; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Arlene (La Verne) Hadley of La Crosse, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband Charles, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Tony and Guy Straight, her in-laws and a grandson, Phillip.
Shirley’s humor kept us with a smile on our faces. She was indeed a generous, witty person with a positive outlook on life. Her upbeat attitude helped her family through many obstacles. We’ll never forget the “love you back’s” and the “love you more’s.” Her fishing trips with the grandkids made for great memories, and boy could she fillet a fish! Shirley Bosworth, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and best friend will be dearly missed, but never forgotten!! We’ll love you to the moon and back!
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 9th at Olivet Beacon of Light Lutheran Church, 2100 Bainbridge Street, French Island with Rev. Luanne Sorenson officiating. Burial will follow in the Onalaska City Cemetery. Following the services at the cemetery there will be a celebration of life at Shelter #1 in Rowe Park in Onalaska from 12:30 PM until ?.
