Frances “Jean” Couper, 91 of La Crosse passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Hillview Health Care Center. She was born August 24, 1923 in Stockton, IL to David Thomas and Mary (Robb) Wilson. At the age of 14 Jean moved with her parents back to their homeland in Scotland. On May 21, 1945 she married John Couper in Arbroath Angus, Scotland. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1968. The couple lived in the West Indies (Trinidad&Tobago), Kincardine, Ontario, Canada and Port Credit, Ontario, Canada before settling in La Crosse in 1965.
Jean had worked at the La Crosse Trane Company in the purchasing department for 15 years until her retirement in 1985. She was very proud to have enjoyed living in and visiting many parts of the world and loved the fact that she was able to return to Scotland many times to visit her sister.
Jean is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline “Jackie” Tulius (friend Steve) of La Crosse; granddaughter, Heather (Steve) Tulius-Rossow of Galesville, WI; grandson, Eric (Jolene) Tulius of Detroit Lakes, MN; four great-grandchildren, Cole Rossow, Bailey, Brooke and Kylie Tulius, along with her grand dogs, Beener and Piper. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, David Thomas (Grayce) Wilson and a sister and brother-in-law, Gladys (William) Anderson.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, September 3rd at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse with Rev. Patrick Augustine officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Association of an organization of the donor’s choice.
Jean’s family would like to thank the crew on the 6th floor staff at Gundersen Health System, Nurse Laura, Hillview Healthcare Center and Gundersen Hospice Program.
