Arnold "Arnie" Shea

February 7, 1921 — July 29, 2014

Arnold J. “Arnie” Shea
Arnold J. Shea, 93, was born to Patrick and Helen (Kleiber) Shea on February 7, 1921 in Lake City, Minnesota. Arnold was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII in the European Theatre, receiving the Purple Heart medal. His talent as a baseball pitcher brought him to the La Crosse area and led to a career as a tool and die maker. On August 31, 1948 Arnold married Patricia Schneider of Plainview, Minnesota. They settled in La Crescent, Minnesota where they built their first home and raised four children. He instilled in them his strong work ethic and sense of integrity. In 1970 Arnie and Pat built Shamrock Lanes, owning and successfully operating the business for 10 years. Arnie was active in the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and various community activities. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing trips with his sons and grandsons. He was the happiest when he was knee deep in wood shavings in his wood working shop, where he created many treasures for family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty six years, Patsy, children Sam (Kathy) Shea, Barb Harlos, Sheri (John) Conway and Todd (Meghan) Shea, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two sisters Roseta and Audrey. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers David and Harold, two sisters Rachel and Edith and a son-in-law John Harlos.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Church of the Crucifixion, 423 S. 2nd St, La Crescent. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Burial will be in the Crucifixion Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, 111 S. Oak St., La Crescent on Friday from 5-7 PM, where a prayer service will be held at 5:00 PM, and again at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service.
Arnold had all his dreams come true including his last wish to die at home surrounded by the love and care of his family. Thank you to all who helped fulfill his dreams…
