Danne Volkening

Danne Fred Volkening, 78 of Holmen, died on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. He was born February 2, 1936 in Elgin, IL to Harold and Dorothy (Stuart) Volkening. Danne served in the United States Army for two years until his discharge. On November 12, 1960 he married Carol Ann Retzlaff in Ripon, WI. Danne had worked for 31 years as an assembler for the Caterpillar Tractor Plant in Aurora, IL until his retirement. In May of 1997 he and Carol moved to Holmen where Danne’s life revolved around his family.
In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by two children; Robin (Ken) Johnson of Fort Peck, MT and Jody (Ellen) Volkening of French Island, WI; three grandchildren, Amy (Shawn) Wiley, Brian Chatten Jr. and Brandon (Sabrina) Chatten; a granddaughter-in-law, Lacey Chatten-Copenhaver of Williston, N.D.; four great-grandchildren, Megan Burns, Trinity Burns, Kadin Chatten and Emma Chatten; two sisters, Shirley (Marvin) Otto of Princeton, WI and Pamela (Jim) Hallett of Tucson, AZ; three brothers, Dale (Donna) Volkening of Wautoma, WI, Lee (Margaret) Volkening of South Carolina and Fred (Irene) Volkening of Boonsboro, MD; a sister-in-law, Marion Blackburn of Ripon, WI; a brother-in-law, Gordon Retzlaff of Ripon, WI, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Aaron Danne Chatten; a great-granddaughter, Madison Faith Chatten; a brother, Joe Miller and a sister-in-law, Barbara Retzlaff.
Memorial services will be held at 5:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 23rd at Journey Lutheran Church, 2703 Sand Lake Road, Holmen with Rev. Steven Meyer officiating. Friends and family may call at the church on Wednesday from 4:30 P.M. until the time of services.
