Mabel H Helgerson

Mabel H. Helgerson, 91, of La Crosse, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011, at the St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Spooner, Minn., on September 16, 1920, to Russell and Mamie (Newby) Bennington. She married Edwin J. Helgerson on September 5, 1949, in La Crescent.

Mabel worked as a waitress at The Trocadaro and the Melody Mill in downtown La Crosse early in her life. She and her husband then owned and operated The Square Deal Bar in La Crosse for 22 years. After they sold the business, Mabel went to work at Mettalics, Inc. for several years before retiring.

Mabel is survived by her husband, Edwin; two sons, Patrick Albitz, of West Salem, and Timothy (Brenda) Helgerson of Nampa, Idaho; a special daughter-in-law, Bernette Albitz of La Crosse; two grandchildren, Kris (Jeff Seiler) Albitz of La Crosse and Michael (Jennifer) Albitz of Baraboo, Wis.; three great grandchildren, Alyssa and Kaitlyn Seiler, and Eric Albitz; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jack, Thomas, and Russell Bennington; and three sisters, Etta Sheldon, Virginia Baumer, and Lialys Bantle.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 31thstth, at 11:00 a.m., at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. Rev. Laurie Weis will officiate. Burial will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
