Loretta M Van Gundy

Loretta M. Van Gundy, 72 of rural La Crescent, MN died on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at her home. She was born October 1, 1939 in Hastings, MN to Peter and Gertrude (Dummer) Leifeld and graduated from High School in Hastings. Following graduation she worked at the Regina Medical Center in Hastings before moving to La Crosse. She then worked at Allis Chalmers in La Crosse until the plants closing. Loretta later worked for several years for Rush Products in Rushford, MN until her retirement in 2005.

On September 17, 1965 she married Allen Van Gundy in La Crescent, MN. Loretta was an avid NASCAR and Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed attending antique gas and steam engine shows. Her greatest love however was taking care of her husband and family.

In addition to her husband Allen, she is survived by three daughters; Annette Van Gundy of La Crescent, MN, Linda Van Gundy of Houston and Nancy (Morey) Arenz of La Crosse; her mother, Gertrude Leifeld of Hastings, MN; three sisters, Bernice (Nick) Otto and Pat Serres both of New Trier, MN, and Marcie (Bob) Gabbert of Hastings, MN; a brother-in-law, Bob Wahlstrom of Hastings, MN; seven brothers-in-law; Harold (Dolores), Don, Francis (Shirley), J.C. (Donna) and Larry (Patty) Van Gundy all of Houston, MN; Wes (Dorothy) Van Gundy of Cedar Falls, IA; Bob (Laurel) Van Gundy of St. Paul, MN; two sisters-in-law; Lois Quillin of La Crescent and Judy (Steve) Mrachek of Winona, MN; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, three sisters, one brother, one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Memorial services will be held at Noon on Thursday, December 8th at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, MN with Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Friends and family may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
