He was born in La Crosse to Peter and Vernel (Parks) Lassig. Gary was a 1954 graduate of La Crosse Central High School and served in the U.S. Army for four years. He married Sue A. McGill on September 2, 1961, at St. James Catholic Church in La Crosse and they celebrated their Golden Anniversary this past September 2thndth.
Following his discharge from the Army, Gary worked at the La Crosse Rubber Mills for several years and briefly for the Railroad Express Agency before retiring from Erickson Bakery, now Sara Lee, after 30 years of service.
In his free time, Gary enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a member of the La Crosse Curling Club. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting when he was able and played softball for many years when he was younger. He was also an avid fan of the Packers and the Cubs.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sue; a son, Kevin (Roxy) Lassig of La Crescent; three grandchildren, Michelle, Trevor, and Ben; one sister, Jeanne Blanchard of La Crosse; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul J. Lassig on October 4, 1982; and one sister, Virginia Runningen.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 19th, at 11:00 a.m., at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse. Rev. Robert Schaller will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., and again on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
