She was born in Westby, Wis., on February 21, 1916, to Olaf and Clara (Nustad) Storsveen, and was a 1933 graduate of Westby High School. Shortly following her graduation, Onas mother died in a traffic accident. She spent the next three years caring for her grandmother until her death in 1936. She then moved to La Crosse and worked at Lutheran Hospital until her marriage to Raymond King in May of 1940. Raymond preceded her in death in 2001.
Ona enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her three sons. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and also gardening and doing little fix-up projects around the house. Her family always came first in her life. She would always find time in her busy day to answer her childrens questions, give advice, solve a problem, or just listen no matter how minor the issue may have seemed.
Ona was a long-time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in La Crosse where she was active for many years in Dorcas Society. She was also a member of the Harry J. Olson Senior Citizen Center where she and Ray took part in many of the centers dances and other activities.
Ona had a sharp wit, a wonderful sense of humor, and a warm smile for everyone.
She is survived by her three sons, Michael S. King and Peter R. King, both of La Crosse, and Jeffrey S. (Kathy) King of Cape Canaveral, Fla.; a cousin, Vivian Lee of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Deloris Nicholson of Janesville, Wis.; a special nephew and his wife, Roderick and Sherry Pederson of Necedah, Wis., as well as many other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ona was also preceded in death by her only sibling, Hazel, and her husband, Lloyd Pederson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27th, at 11:00 a.m., at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. Rev. Mark Jolivette will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Ona was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. Her family feels blessed to have had her in their lives. They would also like to express their thanks to the staff of Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center and Hillview Health Care Center for their kindness and compassionate care of Ona.
