Harriet M. Halverson, 88 a resident of the Sterling House in La Crosse, Wis. and formerly of Stoddard, Wis., went to be with her husband Clayton on Thursday, January 12, 2012. Harriet was born in Chaseburg, Wis., on July 20, 1923 to George and Alma (Grosskopf) Hohlfeld. She married Clayton Halverson and he preceded her in death in 1986. Harriet was a very hard working woman who over the course of many years owned and operated with her husband both the Club 14 restaurant in La Crosse and Sylvan Glen Supper Club in Stoddard. Harriet also worked at the Trocadero restaurant in La Crosse, Haddads Dry Cleaning service and La Crosse Coin Machines. Harriet was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making up new recipes to make her customers happy. She taught her daughter and grandson to cook along with anyone else who wanted to learn. In addition to being a great cook, she will also be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

Harriet will be sadly missed by her daughter Tracy Polus of La Crosse, her grandchildren Christopher Polus, Justin Polus and Angeline (Scott Snow) Rizzolo; her great grandchildren Kaitlynn Spears, Leah, Mackenzie, Madalynn and Kyler Polus and Alexa Snow. She will be further missed by her baby brother Eugene Chink Hohlfeld of Stoddard, sister in law Eldora Hohlfeld of La Crosse, brother in law Stanley (Fran) Halverson of Las Vegas, NV., sister in law Deloris Halverson of Cudahy, Wis., many nieces and nephews and friends especially her buddy Maxine Dayton. In addition to her husband Clayton, she was preceded in death by her son in law Steve Polus, sister Helen Miller, brothers Donald and Harold Hohlfeld, brother in law Richard Halverson and sister in law Dorothy hohlfeld.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. Pastor Ted Dewald will officiate. Burial will be in the Stoddard Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Harriets memory.
