Catherine June Cutz Schoen, 84 of La Crosse slipped into heaven on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. She was born September 25, 1927 in St. Paul, MN to Truro and Myrtle (Miller) Nankivell and graduated from La Crosse Central High School. Catherine was given the nickname Cutcha as a young girl by the father of a girlfriend. The name stayed with her all her life, but was shortened to Cutz many people never knew her by any other name. After graduating from vocational tech, Cutz worked as an administrative secretary for Allis Chalmers in both La Crosse and Milwaukee.

On August 18, 1948 she married Francis Aloys Schoen in La Crosse. Cutz served as President of the American Legion Post 52 Womens Auxiliary from 1975 until 1976; as co-chair she was thrilled to see the Blue Angels fly over La Crosse during the Bicentennial Parade. She was also instrumental in obtaining an authentic lacrosse stick to represent La Crosse, which was given to the Bicentennial wagon train. Cutz also volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tomah as a member of the auxiliary.

In addition to her husband Francis she is survived by seven children; Kathryn Glasspoole of Potomoc Falls, VA, Rosanne (Charles) Brabender of White Bear Lake, MN, Christopher (Roxanne Giesler) Schoen of Cedar Rapids, IA, Peter (Rose) Schoen of Eau Claire, WI, Mark (Ann) Schoen of Madison, Theresa (Timothy) Thies of Chaseburg, WI and Amy (Luis) Montalvo of La Crosse; 21 grandchildren; Mark, Keith, Christie, Jennifer, Jason, Melissa, Elizabeth, Anna, Joseph, John, Tia, Benjamin, Jessica, Allison, Colton, Jacob, Brenna, Titus, Malachi, Casey and Sydney; 10 great-grandchildren, Christian, Kyle, Maelik, Vaedrik, Kloee, Alana, Thorley, Chloe and Aidan; a sister, Shirley Reading of Penn Valley, CA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, February 21thstth at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Rick Roberts officiating. Friends and family may call on Monday at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse from 5-7 P.M. and again on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. Memorials are preferred to the La Crosse Public Library.
