Patricia (Mairich) Fillner

Patricia (Mairich) Fillner, 84 of La Crescent, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the Bethany-Riverside Nursing Facility in La Crosse. Pat was born September 15, 1927 in La Crosse to Walter and Irene (Layman) Mairich. She attended La Crosse area schools and graduated from Central High School in 1945. Pat attended La Crosse State University for two years and then transferred to St. Francis School for Medical Technology, graduating in 1949.

On July 2, 1949 she married Henry Hank Fillner in Minot, N.D. Pat was employed at the Grandview Hospital in La Crosse, supervising the laboratory until its closing. She then transferred to the Skemp Grandview Clinic and supervised the laboratory until her retirement in 1990, after 40 years as a registered medical technologist. Pat then re-entered the workforce as a part-time teacher at WWTC as an advisor in the M.L.T. program. Her final retirement was in 2002, after 12 years as an advisor. In her retirement years Pat volunteered at the St. Clare Mission Free Clinic.

Pat was actively involved with the Blue Star Drum & Bugle Corps parent program in the early years of the corps, chaperoning corps trips. She enjoyed reading, knitting and sewing, especially quilting.

In addition to her husband, Henry she is survived by two daughters; Dina (Terry) Blummer of Cottage Grove, MN and Lyne (Joel) Motylinski of Oakdale, MN; three grandchildren; Katie Blummer, Jason (Courtney) Motylinski and Drew (Michelle) Motylinski; along with four great-grandchildren, Avery and Madeline Motylinski and Ella and Riley Motylinski. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Mark Mairich.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse with Rev. Kimberly Jordan officiating. Entombment will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-7 P.M. and again on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services.

Pat has requested that memorials be given to the St. Clare Mission Free Clinic in La Crosse.
